Dejando el botadero: Dos historias de cambio (Leaving the dump : Two stories of change)

In the Peruvian city of Arequipa, 411 tonnes of the approximately 711 tons of waste generated daily are deposited into informal dumps. 'Leaving the dump : Two stories of change' tells how the Government of Arequipa and private sector are seeking to improve the integrated management of solid waste to counteract negative impacts on health and the environment caused by inadequate management of this waste. Through the support of the UNDP-UNEP Poverty-Environment Initiative, 'Proyecto Mejora de la Gestion Integral de Residuos Solidos Municipales en el Distrito de Arequipa' ('Integrated management of solid waste for inclusive sustainable development in the District of Arequipa') continues to build this unique partnership and bring its lessons to the people of Peru.
